Send-off for Pam

On Saturday 24th of October 2022, 27 people (current and ex- members of the Argonauts and Pam’s goddaughter) gathered at Swanage Pier to bid a farewell to Pam who had passed away last year.  It was a wonderfully sunny afternoon.

Many of us arrived early and admired the brass plaque which the club had arranged to be laid on the pier in memory of Pam.  The plaque is laid on the top deck and the message on the plaque reads “Pam Roth Argonaut Extraordinaire”.

Neil, ex-member of the Argonauts and friend of Pam who read a beautiful eulogy at her funeral, made a short speech and Sheila, Pam’s long-term friend, donned a pair of yellow Marigold gloves (Pam used to wear Marigold gloves when she dived.) and scattered Pam’s ashes on behalf of everyone.

The ashes flew a few metres over the sea on the gentle breeze from the lower deck and then fell to the water while we were watching.  We then gave a toast to Pam with her favourite whisky Famous Grouse.

After a while, we walked to the pub and caught up with old friends over drinks followed by evening meals until late.

It was a wonderful send-off for Pam to say good bye on her 89th birthday.
